ExpoJunkie PAX East Edition Now Available

At long last the time has come. This Friday the inaugural PAX East opens and tens of thousands of gamers from around the country will pour into Boston to celebrate. For all of you we're rebuilt ExpoJunkie for PAX East it's now available at

If haven't used ExpoJunkie PAX edition before, it's a mobile web-based guide to PAX events. Instead of flipping through a printed schedule, ExpoJunkie gives you easy access to complete event schedules and venue maps. With a supported smartphone or iPod touch, you can even run ExpoJunkie completely offline! It's free to use, and according to our users, 100% awesome.

This time around, we've made lots of back-end improvements, improved support for Android users (including offline support for Android 2.0), and even added a few new features.

You'll notice that ExpoJunkie now works if you're viewing it from your desktop web browser. It's a super-fast way to browser PAX East event listings from your computer or netbook:
The mobile version now lets you know when updates are being downloaded, and if your offline data is up-to-date:

We hope you like the updates we've made, and we look forward to seeing you at PAX East!

PAX East 2010 is almost upon us, and we're hard at work building an updated version of ExpoJunkie.

To help promote the app in person, we've ordered a bunch of mini-cards from MOO. Check 'em out:

Lots more updates coming soon...stay tuned!

Introducing ExpoJunkie PAX 09 Edition

Boys and Girls, it's almost time for the Penny Arcade Expo, a magical time of year when gamers can gather and bask in the joys of geek culture. We've been surfing the PAX Forums and noticed a couple of threads talking about & wishing for a mobile app, but those plans fizzled.

We deemed this situation unacceptable, so over the past two weekends we set to work. Today we're proud to announce ExpoJunkie PAX 09 Edition:

We wanted PAX attendees to have a complete event schedule & map listing right on their iPhones. ExpoJunkie features easy-to-navigate panel & gaming schedules and scrollable/zoomable maps for the convention center.

We also wanted iPod touch & iPhone users to be able to load the app and run it offline. By using some of the cool new features in iPhone OS 3, we can cache a lot of data on your iPhone/iPod touch. Once you 'install' the app to your home screen, the database & maps will be cached on your device for offline access. If you are online, the app will automatically check for updates & download as needed.

We still have a few kinks to work out and possibly a few more features to add, but for now visit:

on your iPhone or iPod touch! We'll call it 'beta' for the moment -- some features like device-side caching may not be fully enabled. Everything should be squared away by the time PAX starts. Follow us here or on Twitter for service updates.

[P.S.: if you have an Android device or Palm Pre, good news! You can use the app too]

Lasty, here's a few screenshots of the app in action:
